Traditional Rhythm

This includes the traditional drums and drumming styles from across the world. Some of these instruments include Djembe, Bata, Log drum, Clay drums, Tambourines, Omele, Talking drum etc. The number of players in each sub-category is:

  • Small Band: Maximum - 6
  • Large Band: Maximum - 20

Voices and Percussion

This category combines voices with drumming as typified by the Aborigines and other cultures from across the world. Teams contesting in this category must have the following number of players in the corresponding sub-categories:

  • Small Band: Maximum - 6
  • Large Band: Maximum - 20

Melodic Percussion

This category involves percussive instruments of melody as against the skin and other conventional drums. Some of these instruments include the Steelpan, Marimba, Balafon, Xylophone, Hand pan, etc. The under listed are the sub-categories and their corresponding maximum number of players:

  • Small Band: Maximum - 6
  • Large Band: Maximum - 30

This is the only category that has only one player. The contestant will be playing the Drum kit..

Drum Line Face-Off

Another exciting aspect of drumming pitches teams of not more than ten players against each other using the conventional Drum-line percussive instruments.

  • Small Band: Maximum - 10
  • Large Band: Maximum - 30

Innovative and Creative Rhythm

This category involves the use of non conventional percussive instruments developed by the contestants. These may include both rhythmic and melodic instruments such as Bells, Pipes, buckets, etc. Each team in this category must be made up of the following number of players in each corresponding sub-category.

  • Small Band: Maximum - 6
  • Large Band: Maximum - 20
